Programs & Training

Since 1982, SLS has provided services and training to students, educators, and families. Our goal is to empower students to live safe and healthy lives and teach their peers to do the same.

01

SLS Chapters (High School)

Student-led chapters in high schools across Michigan. Members learn leadership, peer resistance skills, and prevention education, then teach what they learn to younger students and their communities.

02

STAND Chapters (Middle School)

Our middle school program brings age-appropriate prevention education and leadership development to younger students, building the foundation for healthy decision-making before high school.

03

Annual Conference

Each year, students from across Michigan gather at Shanty Creek Resort for leadership training, workshops, and peer networking. The Conference is the highlight of the SLS calendar.

Proven outcomes across 23 Michigan schools

SLS is one of the few youth prevention programs with a long-term, independently led validation study. Dr. Lisa Ficker of Wayne State University evaluated SLS from 2011 to 2018, measuring seven outcome areas from substance use to leadership development.

Our programs are recognized by SAMHSA, independently validated by Wayne State University, and aligned with Michigan Department of Education standards.
